Meet Mason

Co-author of AI as Normal Technology

From rural Florida to Normal Technology evangelist—Mason’s work focuses on helping institutions adopt AI with documentation, measurement, and human agency.

Teaching-first. Policy-backed. Built on real client work. AI adoption is a people problem before it’s a tooling problem.
Story

Why Mason cares about Normal Technology

Mason grew up blending farm pragmatism with newsroom deadlines, then co-authored AI as Normal Technology. That mix of experimentation and stewardship still powers every engagement today.

I help teams move from slide decks to shipped workflows they trust.

I’ve led remote editorial teams, rebuilt playbooks after mergers, and watched good ideas stall because nobody owned the “what now?”. Today, I help agencies and small businesses practice the Normal Technology thesis: design policies, prompts, and workflows that teams can explain—not just execute.

  • Approach Teach-first, experiment quickly, document everything.
  • Focus Crawl → Walk → Run → Fly—stage change so adoption sticks.
  • Result People who know why the workflow works, not just which buttons to press.

Values

Principles that keep the work honest

These are the guardrails Mason uses with every client—so experimentation stays useful, ethical, and resilient in the face of AI’s unpredictable impacts.

Curiosity with guardrails

Test widely, document what sticks, and set boundaries so people feel safe learning.

Policies before promises

Every workflow ships with usage policies, review steps, and rollback plans.

Teach to hand off

If your team can’t teach the workflow forward, it isn’t ready. We bake enablement into every sprint.

Measure & adapt

Cycle time, error rate, adoption curves—we quantify success, stress-test resilience, and adjust when reality surprises us.

Journey

From crawl-stage experiments to guiding full-fly teams

Key moments that shaped Mason’s Access→Adoption framework—and how it translates into today’s client work.

  1. 2014

    Remote newsroom lead

Scaled a distributed editorial team, formalizing asynchronous workflows and human-in-the-loop review long before “AI ops” was a phrase.

  2. 2018

    Policy + automation inside agencies

Brought compliance, documentation, and measurable handoffs to marketing & product teams shipping their first AI-assisted deliverables.

  3. 2022

    Daily Access→Adoption notes

Launched the public notebook—sharing what works (and what fails) so small teams can shortcut the crawl/walk phase.

  4. Today

Partnering with teams ready to run & fly

Consulting, workshops, and digital products that deliver policy-backed workflows, measurement, and coaching.
