About

Mason James is a founder, builder, and AI consultant helping teams turn messy workflows into practical software, automation, and useful AI systems.

I’m Mason James, a builder, operator, and writer focused on practical AI, useful software, and the systems that make work feel less chaotic. I’ve spent my career helping teams turn messy technical needs into clear products, from founding Valet.io , a web support and digital strategy company, to founding Valet Health, where we built digital marketing, patient communication, and growth systems for healthcare practices. That work taught me the thing I still care about most: technology only matters when it makes people’s work easier, clearer, and more effective.

These days, I help founders, agencies, nonprofits, and small teams figure out what AI is actually good for inside their business. Sometimes that means an adoption plan, better internal workflows, or a saner way to use the tools they already have. Sometimes it means building the thing: research tools, proposal systems, member chat apps, website builders, publishing stacks, automation pipelines, or custom interfaces that help a small team punch above its weight without pretending the robots are going to magically run the company.

This site is also a working notebook. I write about AI, open source, remote teams, product building, and the strange middle ground between strategy and implementation. Over the last year I’ve been building experiments like ProposalMint, a nonprofit grant-intelligence workspace; a premium member AI chat app; AI-assisted website and launch-site builders; and a local music-generation studio for Apple Silicon. The common thread is simple: I like software that gets out of theory and into the hands of someone trying to do real work.

I live in Myakka City, Florida, where my partner and I manage a 10-acre orchid farm with our two dogs, Penny and Mali, plus chickens, ducks, and a never-ending list of things that need fixing. That life keeps me honest. Systems either work or they don’t. Water lines leak, animals need food, plants punish neglect, and businesses are not all that different. My work is about building tools and workflows that hold up in the real world, preferably with less drama than a busted irrigation line.a place for everything is an independent publication launched in January 2024 by Mason James.
